Derrick Rose Says Knicks And Warriors Are NBA's 'Super Teams'

Bryan Altman

Derrick Rose has been nothing if not blunt and outspoken about his expectations for himself and the Knicks since he's joined the team and now he may have just made his boldest proclamation yet.

Lang Whitaker of NBA.com asked Rose in an interview about his expectations for the Knicks this year and here's what the 27-year-old point guard had to say.

From NBA.com:

"They're high. I mean, with these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they're trying not to build that many super teams, and Adam Silver came out with the statement and this and that."

Now, I'm not exactly sure who "they" are, but my best guess would be that most, if not all of them, will be donning orange and blue jerseys and playing at Madison Square Garden in 2016.

The term 'super team' is one that should be revered and reserved for only the best of the best teams in the world of sports.

The Golden State Warriors have proved they're a super team by winning an NBA championship, losing in seven games in another one, while sporting a 140-24 regular season record over the last two seasons.

Oh yeah, and they added that Kevin Durant guy to that same core. THAT, is a super team.

While the Knicks should be exciting and much improved, super teams aren't made or anointed on loose leaf.

Plus, I think D-Rose might have left off a few teams that could be considered super teams, such as last year's champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the San Antonio Spurs, at the very least.

Who knows. Maybe the Knicks stay healthy this year and go on a magical run and win an improbable 50-plus games. That's probably still not enough to get them anything better than a No. 4/5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and definitely doesn't get them above the super team threshold.

All we're asking, Derrick, is don't throw the 'super team' label around with the carelessness of a Geno Smith out route.

Especially when the 2016-17 Knicks have played a total of zero games together just yet.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
