2 Killed, More Than A Dozen Hurt In Fort Myers, Florida Nightclub Shooting

FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials said a shooting broke out at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida as parents picked up their kids from a party for teens, leaving two dead and at least 17 wounded.

Fort Myers Police Capt. Jim Mulligan said in a statement that the investigation is active and investigators are working to determine a motive into the shooting at Club Blu, but police said it was not an act of terrorism.

Authorities also identified the two victims who died as 14-year-old Sean Archilles and 18-year-old Ste'fan Strawder.

Club Blu said on its Facebook page that the shooting broke out as parents picked up their children.

The post from the club said armed security had been posted at the event inside and outside. It said it was trying to give the teens "what we thought was a safe place to have a good time.''

"We are deeply sorry for all involved," it said.

A witness named Brian Martin told WINK that he rushed to the scene because a friend of his was among the victims.

"It was a madhouse. People were running everywhere. All people were saying was their friends' names to see if they're OK -- a lot of phone calls to parents," Martin said. "But it was one of the scariest sights to just see people come pouring out like that."

Cheryl Garn, a spokeswoman for Lee Memorial Health System, said that three people remain hospitalized Monday morning. Garn said the victims range in age from 12 to 27.

The incident comes more than a month after a nightclub shooting in Orlando left 49 people dead and 53 others wounded in what became the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.
