Cops: Suspect Broke Into Staten Island Bathroom, Attacked Woman During Shower

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to rape a woman on Staten Island.

The attack took place near Ebbitts Street and Hett Avenue, police said.

Just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Miguel Felipe -- who goes by Tino or Constantino -- allegedly entered a locked bathroom where a 22-year-old woman was showering.

Police said Felipe touched the woman's genitals and threw her to the ground. When she fought back he choked her, according to authorities.

Authorities said the woman coerced Felipe into letting her walk out of the bathroom. Once in the hallway she ran out of the apartment and into the street where she sought help from passersby.

The woman was treated and released from an area hospital. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

Felipe is 30-years-old, 5'4", 140-lbs.

Anyone with information regarding the incident has been asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and entering TIP577.
