De Blasio Abruptly Leaves New York Delegation Breakfast Without Speaking

PHILADELPHIA (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio abruptly leaves the New York delegation's breakfast without speaking Thursday morning.

CBS2's Marcia Kramer reported de Blasio was previously missing in action from the daily New York delegation breakfast, which was being chaired by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

CBS2's Kramer asked de Blasio about missing the breakfasts on Wednesday.

"I look forward to going tomorrow and look, from my point of view, seeing all my colleagues on the floor gives me plenty of opportunity to connect with people," de Blasio said.

De Blasio showed up on Thursday but suddenly left shortly after a video testimonial of former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

"I get a few minutes tonight, which is an honor to New York that they gave the New York governor a speaking slot on the last night," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "That's a sign of respect."

De Blasio, however, didn't get a prime time speaking slot, instead addressing the Democratic National Convention late Wednesday afternoon.

De Blasio left without speaking to the delegation.

De Blasio Press Secretary Eric Philips said the mayor had another event to attend, and that's why he had to leave.

"The Mayor had a speaking slot but the State Party program was running significantly late. He is currently moderating a policy panel on income inequality," Philips said.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke in the prime time hours of the DNC on Wednesday night.
