Mets' Lagares Placed On DL, Expected To Miss 6 Weeks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The hits keep on coming for the Mets – and not the kind of hits they were hoping for.

Center fielder Juan Lagares has become the latest Met to land on the disabled list, manager Terry Collins announced Friday. Lagares will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn ligament in his thumb and is expected to miss at least six weeks.

Lagares suffered the injury making a diving catch June 1. He missed several games with the issue but tried to delay surgery until the offseason and play through it.

He is batting .243 with three homers, eight RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Lagares joins third baseman David Wright, first baseman Lucas Duda and pitcher Matt Harvey on the DL. Third baseman Jose Reyes is also currently out with a rib injury.

The Mets recalled outfielder Brandon Nimmo, who hit .235 with a home run and four RBIs in 16 games earlier this season with the Mets.
