Red Bulls Suffer Big Blow, Lose Captain McCarty For 4-6 Weeks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- This one will hurt.

The Red Bulls found out on Monday night that they will be without star midfielder Dax McCarty for up to six weeks due to a fractured tibia.

New York's captain and defensive stalwart suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday's 2-2 draw in Chicago when he was tackled by the Fire's Khlay Thiam.

Thiam received a yellow card on the play.

McCarty, who has two goals and two assists in 21 matches this season, announced the injury on Twitter.

Currently in second place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference, four points behind rival NYCFC, the Red Bulls will likely turn to Sean Davis to replace McCarty. Davis entered after McCarty left in the 42nd minute on Sunday.

After playing Antigua GFC of of Guatemala in their CONCACAF Champions League opener on Wednesday, the Red Bulls will travel to Los Angeles for a match against the Galaxy on Sunday night.
