Pokemon Go Home – West Orange Man Says App Is Causing Users To Trespass On His Property

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- From Pokemon Go to Pokemon 'no' -- a West Orange man is fed up with the wildly popular game and some of the people playing it.

In a lawsuit filed Friday against the Pokemon company, Nintendo, and software developer Niantic, Jeffrey Marder alleges he's had "strangers gather outside of his home, holding up mobile phones as if they were taking pictures."

He said at least five people have knocked on the door asking for access to the backyard to catch the virtual creatures that have people around the country crazed. He said the game put them there without permission.

As CBS2's Jessica Layton reported, Marder wanted nothing to do with the story, but neighbors were interested in why CBS2's cameras were there.

"Pokemon thing is getting out of hand," one neighbor said.

Noel O'Keefe lives across the street, he hasn't seen anything out of the ordinary, but admits he doesn't know much about the game or how it works.

"To each their own, some people are complainers I guess," he said.

Mary Beth DiDonna doesn't get the fascination, but can understand her neighbors' frustration if people are hanging out where they shouldn't.

"I don't think it's right, people are trespassing on other people's property," DiDonna said.

Some kids on the block said the app is addicting, but they know the limits -- especially when it comes to trespassing.

"That's not right. We don't really do that. I think we learned out lesson," Jessica said.

Now they know for sure they won't be welcome in this neighborhood.

The game clearly says not to trespass, so why are there Pokemon and Pokestops on private property? CBS2 reached out to Nintendo to ask, but has yet to receive an answer.

The family said they called police to the area on Tuesday. The family's attorney did not return a call for comment.
