Ex-Chappaqua High School Drama Teacher Pleads Guilty To Endangering Welfare Of A Child

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A former Westchester County high school drama teacher accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with minors at the school has agreed to a plea deal, authorities announced Friday.

Christopher Schraufnagel pleaded guilty to three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and admitted in court Thursday to subjecting two of three alleged victims to sexual contact, Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty said.

Under the terms of the proposed plea agreement, McCarty said Schraufnagel will face three years of probation as a sex offender and will also be required to surrender his New York State Teaching Certificate.

Schraufnagel, who taught at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, was arrested in October and had faced charges of criminal sex act, endangering the welfare of a minor and sex abuse.

From May 2011 until June 2015, prosecutors said he "engaged in numerous instances of sexual assault, inappropriate sexual conduct and contact with a total of three underage students of the school."

All three of the alleged victims were 15 at the time of the incidents, prosecutors said.

Schraufnagel is set to be sentenced in November.
