Trump: Obama 'Is The Founder Of ISIS'

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBSNewYork) -- Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in Florida Wednesday that President Barack Obama is behind the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria terror group.

Speaking to supporters in Fort Lauderdale, Trump said Obama is "the founder of ISIS."

"In fact, in many respects, they honor President Obama. ISIS is honoring Obama. He is the founder of ISIS," Trump said.

Trump then told the crowd the Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is the co-founder of the terror group.

"[Obama] founded ISIS and I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton," Trump exclaimed.

Trump in recent days accused Clinton rhetorically of being the founder of ISIS.

Trump said Obama and Clinton made a "mess" in the Middle East.

"We unleashed fury all over the Middle East and it was a terrible mistake," Trump said. "And then Obama came in and normally you want to clean up. He made a bigger mess out of it, he made such a mess. And then you had Hillary with Libya, so sad."

Trump also referred to the president by his full legal name: Barack Hussein Obama.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed Clinton and Trump in a dead heat in the "Sunshine State" – 46 to 45 percent.
