Man, 53, Seriously Injured In Explosion At Englewood Car Dealership

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP)  -- A man sustained a serious head injury at a car dealership when he was inside a room with waste oil that exploded.

Englewood Deputy Fire Chief Erik Enersen told The Record the 53-year-old man also suffered burns to one of his arms and was taken to a hospital Wednesday morning.

The man was working inside the room that stores waste oil at a Ford dealership just before 9 a.m. when a flash fire led to a small explosion, said Enersen.

No one else was hurt.

Officials are investigating what caused the explosion.

About 200 gallons of waste oil spilled during the incident and firefighters worked to contain it. Some oil escaped into a brook behind the dealership.
