Police: LI Teen Fatally Struck By Car On Bethpage State Parkway

SOUTH FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teen is dead after police say he was hit by a car while walking along the Bethpage State Parkway on Long Island over the weekend.

State police say John Ortiz, 16, was struck by a vehicle just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in South Farmingdale. Investigators say Ortiz was seen by witnesses walking with a 17-year-old boy in the roadway prior to the crash.

Authorities say the operator of the car that hit Ortiz didn't seem him. Ortiz was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other teenager wasn't hurt.

The person behind the wheel of the vehicle remained at the scene.

No charges have been filed.

The crash remains under investigation.
