Giants Kicker Josh Brown Suspended For Season Opener For Violating NFL Personal Conduct Policy

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Giants kicker Josh Brown has been suspended without pay for the season opener after the NFL said he violated its personal conduct policy, the team announced Wednesday.

It wasn't clear Wednesday afternoon what led to the suspension.

Brown will be eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games. He won't be allowed to be around the team following the final preseason game and can return on Sept. 12, a day after the Giants open the season at Dallas.

"While I do not agree with the suspension, I will accept it," Brown said in a statement. "I have exhausted the appeals process and have no other options along those lines. I will continue to work hard for this team, and I have tremendous confidence in my teammates and in my ability to move on and contribute to the team."

Giants coach Ben McAdoo added: "We have been supportive of Josh and will continue to be, but we accept the league's decision."

Brown, 37, has been the Giants' kicker for the past three years and was selected to the Pro Bowl last season, when he was 30-of-32 on field goals and 44-of-45 on extra points.

Missing the season opener will cost Brown more than $87,000 in salary and a roster bonus.

The Giants also have kicker Tom Obarski, a rookie free agent out of Concordia-St. Paul, on their preseason roster.
