MTA Says Reports Of Hot Subway Cars On The Rise

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Straphangers are getting steamed up over subway cars with broken air conditioning.

Complaints about hot subway cars are on the rise, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The agency said it gets 12 to 16 reports of hot cars every day, but officials note that's a small share of the fleet of 6,300 cars.

Transit officials encourage subway riders to report hot cars on Twitter. Users are asked to include the line and car number.

A look at the Twitter page offers a glimpse into some miserable commutes.

Most air conditioning problems are on the number 1 and 6 lines, which use older cars that are more susceptible to breakdowns, CBS2 reported.
