Giants Replace Troubled Brown, For Now, With Ex-Jets Kicker Bullock

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Giants have signed placekicker Randy Bullock and waived free agent Tom Obarski.

The Giants made the move Monday, electing to sign a veteran with Josh Brown suspended for the regular-season opener against Dallas on Sept. 11.

The NFL suspended Brown last week for violating its personal conduct policy. He had been arrested in May 2015 on a fourth-degree domestic violence allegation. The King County prosecutor in Washington did not file a charge, citing insufficient evidence.

The Giants considered going with Obarski in the opener, but he missed a 27-yard field-goal attempt this past weekend.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul on Monday said he thinks players have not reacted much to Brown's suspension.

"It doesn't matter, we're all family around here," Pierre-Paul said. "People have their own problems to handle. He's still our brother and we look past it. We're going to need him. Every player, we're going to need them."

Pierre-Paul said he has not talked to Brown about the allegations.

"At the end of the day, every guy on this team has a situation," Pierre-Paul said. "I don't like people knowing about my business, and my situation, so I try to keep out of people's situations unless they come to me and ask for help."

Pierre-Paul said Brown should not be released in the wake of the allegations.

"Why should we cut him? Every guy needs a chance," he said.

Bullock, 26, is entering his fourth NFL season, having previously kicked for the Houston Texans and the Jets.

He played in all 32 games in 2013-14 and three more in 2015 for the Texans before playing in eight games for the Jets. He has made 75 of 93 field-goal attempts and 88 of 91 extra-point tries.

The Texans waived Bullock last Sept. 29 after he missed a pair of extra points and a 43-yard field-goal attempt in their first three games. The Jets signed him on Nov. 10 when Nick Folk was placed on injured reserve. In eight games, he made 14 of 17 field-goal attempts and 19 of 20 extra-point tries.

Bullock's best season was in 2014, when he finished fifth in the AFC with 130 points, making 30 of 35 field-goal attempts.

The 37-year-old Brown will be allowed to practice with the Giants in training camp.
