Celebrate National Dog Day With 3 To See At ACC!

New York (CBSNewYork) As dog lovers across the country mark National Dog Day, CBSNewYork and 1010 WINS team up with Animal Care Centers of New York City to feature several of the hundreds of wonderful dogs available right now for adoption at the city's animal shelters.

Consider making National Dog Day your "Gotcha Day" as you give a dog a loving forever home.  Check out these cuties and visit ACC online for more adoptables (click HERE):

Hennesy (A1073020 - photo above)  Hennesy is as sweet and smooth as a pup can be. Although she can be a little shy at first, once she warms up to you you'll have a friend for life. A real people dog, Hennesy makes friends fast. She loves playing and has been great around children, so she's perfect for a family with a lot of love to give. All she needs is a good bone or ball to chew on and lots of love and she's happy. Take Hennesy home with you today for your own little slice of southern comfort! Meet Hennesy, who's about three years old, at this weekend's mobile adoption events or (if she's not adopted there) at ACC's Brooklyn Care Center, 2336 Linden Boulevard.

King Tut (A1085940) available for adoption at ACC's Manhattan Care Center, 326 E. 110th Street.

King Tut (A1085940) King Tut "wags his tail gently as I talk to him and pet him, and he's so mellow and sweet I could have spent the entire afternoon with him," writes an ACC volunteer, who also notes he "has an adorable habit of touching my hand when we walk as if checking to make sure I'm still there and happy." According to his previous owner, King lived gently with a 7-year-old child, doesn't guard his things, is friendly and affectionate, likes to play with balls and chew toys, is housetrained when walked regularly, and his favorite game is wrestling. Meet this approximately one-year-old cutie at ACC's Manhattan Care Center, 326 E. 110th Street.

Spain (A1036197) available for adoption at fosters@nycacc.org

Spain (A1036197)  "In many ways Spain is like a giant puppy!" writes Spain's foster mom. Adorable, approximately six-year-old Spain, who's been in an ACC foster home for over a year, loves toys and belly rubs, enjoys lounging and taking walks with the lady dogs he's been living with, and is also very friendly and tolerant with the resident cats (he's "their favorite pillow"). "He has an autoimmune disorder called pemphigus foliaceus that causes his immune system to essentially attack the bridges that hold some of his skin cells together," his foster notes. "There is no cure, but his case has been very responsive to steroid therapy. It is really amazing to watch him run and wonder if he ever got to do so pain-free before -- he has the BEST smile. So while he does have some special needs, he is also just plain special and I know he will bring the right person so much happiness!"

Email fosters@nycacc.org if interested in adopting Spain.
