NYPD: Man Arrested After Attacking Woman In Riverside Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 26-year-old man has been arrested after police said he lured a woman to Riverside Park and raped her.

Anthony Camillo was arrested on rape, strangulation and other charges, police said.

Police said just after midnight Saturday, Camillo met a 24-year-old woman on board a Brooklyn-bound F train and told her his friend could offer her a ride to Brooklyn, but that they had to meet him inside the park.

Once at the park, police said he choked the woman, forced her to the ground and raped her. The woman screamed for help and Camillo fled.

Police responded to the scene and caught Camillo nearby. The victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated for injuries.

Park goers were shocked.

"I wouldn't come here late at night," one woman told 1010 WINS' Darius Radzius.

The NYPD has stepped up patrols in the park after a string of muggings carried out by teenagers.
