Homeless Shelter Employee Shot To Death In Borough Park Intersection
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was found shot to death at a Brooklyn intersection on Monday afternoon, and police were left looking for the killer.
As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, someone in a red Nissan Rogue opened fire on the driver of a silver commercial van shortly after noon.
Cops responded to a 911 call to find the man with multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of 46th Street and Utrecht Avenue in Borough Park.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom, one after another," said a man who heard the shots. "People running here and there, and then I saw that the van bumped into a pole, and I saw the guy laying back with his head backwards."
The 36-year-old driver was taken to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The van belonged to Win NYC, a network of women's homeless shelters in the city. Its logo is on the side, and the driver had the same logo on his shirt.
According to a statement from former City Council Speaker and Win President Christine Quinn, the shooting took place as an employee was taking a client to complete a housing application.
"Earlier today, in an act of senseless violence, a Win employee transporting one of our clients to an appointment to complete a housing application was shot and killed in Brooklyn," Quinn said in the statement. "We cannot begin to express the sadness this incident brings to our organization, its staff, and our clients."
Quinn added that Win had suspended vehicle fleet operations, enhanced security protocols, and was working with authorities to bring a suspect to justice.
The name of the victim had not been released on Monday.
