Fall Shoe Trends: Loafers, Faux Fur, Velvet & More

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Pointed-toe shoes are back. So are loafers. Faux fur. Suede on fire. It's that time of the year to recharge and reboot your fall fashion.

A mantra from marketers, as Cinderella knows, one shoe can change a life.

"New York Fashion Week is around the corner we are all excited about the new trends, changing up our look for the season," David Kirschenbaum, of Nieman Marcus, told CBS2's Jennifer McLogan.

Kirschenbaum points to the comfortable yet exotic: jewels, ankle straps, and buckles.

"Gold is bold? And all that glitters is gold-- different hues of gold," he said.

This season it's all about embellishment and adornment.

"Put that on with jeans and a button down and really make your shoe pop," he said.

Ravishing colors will also be a top trend for fall.

"We do it with feather flowers and stones," Kirschenbaum said.

Shoppers are getting their work-outs in, racing from shoe store to shoe store, some in silver platforms or leather and rope sandals.

"In the fall season, you want texture," he said.

Nothing is predicted to be bigger this fall than velvet. It'll be seen in everything from booties to pumps and thick heels, proving velvet isn't just for holidays or special occasions.

Shoe stores are hoping that the weekend storm may bring more shoppers into area malls this Labor Day weekend.
