Search For Missing Fisherman Suspended After 2 Bodies Wash Ashore On LI

SHOREHAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) --The Coast Guard has suspended a search for two missing men after two bodies washed ashore on the North Shore of Long Island.

Suffolk County police say a call came in around 6 a.m. Sunday that two bodies had been found in Shoreham. That's a short distance away from where the missing men had gone into the water Saturday afternoon while fishing in Wading River.

Another man had also slipped into the water but had been able to pull himself onto land.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time," said Capt. Andrew Tucci, commander of Sector Long Island Sound. "We are deeply saddened by this outcome, and we appreciate the dedicated efforts of everyone involved in the search."

Suffolk County authorities have not officially confirmed that the bodies are those of the missing men.
