JonBenet Ramsey's Brother Speaks For First Time Nearly 20 Years After Sister's Murder

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- JonBenet Ramsey's brother is speaking for the first time 20 years after his sister's murder.

CBS2's Alice Gainer reported Burke Ramsey spoke exclusively with Dr. Phil.

"My dad came and told me JonBenet is in heaven now and he started crying and I started crying," Ramsey said.

He was only 9 when JonBenet was found murdered in the family's Boulder, Colorado, home. The 6-year-old beauty queen was bludgeoned and strangled in the basement the day after Christmas in 1996.

"The first thing I remember is my mom bursting in my room really frantic, saying like, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,' running around my room, looking for JonBenet," Ramsey said.

Suspicion immediately fell on the parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, along with Burke.

"I was scared. I think I didn't know if there was some bad guy downstairs and my dad was chasing off with a gun. I had no idea," Burke Ramsey said.

In 2008, DNA evidence cleared JonBenet's parents and brother. Ramsey explained why he spoke 20 years later.

"For the last 20 years, I wanted to grow up like a normal kid, which does not include going in front of TV cameras," he said.

Dr. Phil previewed what's to come in this three-part series.

"I ask him straight up did you kill your sister JonBenet. I ask about when he had hit her on the head before, there had been a serious incident with that," Dr. Phil said. "Was it his voice on the end of that 911 call? When he had said he was in bed and yet people said they heard his voice on the end of the 911 call."

Dr. Phil added we will also see the interrogation tapes when Burke Ramsey was questioned.

Part two airs Tuesday and the third part next Monday, Sept. 19, on "Dr. Phil" at 3 p.m. on CBS2.

There's also a docuseries on CBS airing Sunday night as "The Case of JonBenet Ramsey" re-examines the unsolved murder.
