CHAPPPAQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Hillary Clinton remained on the campaign sidelines on Tuesday, recovering from pneumonia.
Meanwhile, as CBS2’s Dick Brennan reported, there were more questions about the transparency of the campaign.
Flowers from well-wishers arrived in Chappaqua where Clinton was recovering, after she collapsed leaving the 9/11 ceremony this past Sunday. While Clinton was on the mend, she was getting some high-level help on the trail.
“This is not just me going through the motions here,” President Barack Obama said at a campaign event in Philadelphia. “I really, really, really want to elect Hillary Clinton.”
Obama also aimed his fire at Donald Trump.
“This isn’t Abraham Lincoln’s Republican Party. This isn’t even the vision of freedom that Ronald Reagan talked about,” Obama said. “This is a dark, pessimistic vision.”
The Clinton campaign continues to get criticism for not disclosing her condition. Vice President Joe Biden was typically glib as he discussed the subject on Tuesday.
“The staff acknowledged they screwed up. The staff acknowledged that they should have, on Friday, just straight up said she’s been diagnosed with pneumonia, and she should listen to her doctor, for God’s sake,” Biden said.
Former President Bill Clinton told Charlie Rose this wasn’t the first incident for his wife. Rose asked former President Clinton whether Clinton’s condition at the 9/11 Memorial ceremony did not appear more serious than dehydration.
“Well, if it is, then it’s a mystery to her and her doctors, because frequently – not frequently, rarely, but on more than one occasion through the years – the same sort of things happened to her when she just got severely dehydrated,” he said.
A new NBC News poll shows Trump closing in on Clinton. He’s now trailing by four points.
And while the Trump campaign has wished Clinton a speedy recovery, it also continued to hammer her for her comments about some Trump supporters.
“While my opponent slanders you as deplorable and irredeemable, I call you hard-working American patriots who love your country,” Trump said.
The Trump campaign has promised to release more medical records. Trump said he will release more details about his own health on Thursday on “The Dr. Oz Show.”
Dr. Oz said he won’t ask Trump any questions he does not want to answer, because his studio is really a doctor’s office.
