Cigar Smoking Vandal Targets Hoboken Insurance Agency Over Labor Day Weekend

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A vandal in Hoboken has been caught on camera.

As CBS2's Meg Baker explained, a business owner discovered the damage done when a man holding a pizza, walking up Washington Street, stopped to throw statues on the ground.

"I was super surprised, 7:30 at night, other people walking around, and someone didn't say anything like, 'you shouldn't be ripping out someone's property?" Roger Muller, Muller Insurance said.

It happened on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. It was still light out as the man with a cigar in his mouth threw a trash bag onto a car before vandalizing the garden area outside of Muller insurance and continuing to walk towards 10th Street.

"He was really determined to rip it out. Fortunately it is cemented to a pot and hard to get out," Muller said.

Other Hoboken residents were disgusted by the shameful act.

"I was absolutely appalled. Both Roger and his wife try to create a space out here. Horrible someone would have so much disrespect to do that," Samantha Cicimirska said.

Muller uploaded the security footage to YouTube and Facebook.

Social media has worked for Muller in the past -- they had a bench stolen in January.

Video shows a man stealing the bench and returning it.

"I ended up posting on Facebook 'bench being stolen' two days later after I shared it with friends, 24 inches of snow on the ground the person came back, put it back," he said. "I don't think his boss or family would enjoy seeing him damaging someone's property. I don't think he would want someone doing that to him."

Muller is hoping someone can identify the suspect in this senseless act.
