Prosecutors: New Jersey Man Downloads Child Porn Using Neighbor's Unsecured Wi-Fi

CLEMENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey couple learned the hard way about the dangers of having an unsecured Wi-Fi network after police woke them up in their home.

Police jolted the couple out of bed in Clementon earlier this month, seeking the person responsible for downloading and sharing child pornography, CBS2 reported.

A sweep of the couple's computer found nothing.

Investigators soon discovered their Wi-Fi network was not password protected and traced the downloads to a neighbor on Woodmill Drive, officials said.

"Unfortunately the older generation is certainly a target for hackers like this because they may not be understanding what kind of technology they're putting in place. It sets you up to be extremely vulnerable," cybersecurity attorney Leeza Garber said.

Police arrested the couple's neighbor, 55-year-old Louis LaSalle, after they found more than 33,000 images and more than 700 videos on his laptop, prosecutors said.

He was charged with possessing and distributing child porn. Bail was set at $150,000  cash.
