Forbes Ranks Giants As 3rd Most Valuable NFL Team, Jets 7th

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Giants are the NFL's third most valuable franchise, according to Forbes magazine's annual list.

The Giants, who are valued at $3.1 billion, trail only the Dallas Cowboys ($4.2 billion) and New England Patriots ($3.4 billion), who were also ranked in the top two last year. The New York Jets came in seventh on the new list.

The Giants, whose 2015 revenue was estimated at $444 million, moved up one spot from last year, when their worth was believed to be $2.8 billion and their annual revenue was estimated at $400 million.

The Jets, meanwhile, fell one spot from last year. The magazine estimated their worth at $2.75 billion, up from $2.6 billion the previous year, and annual revenue at $423 million, up from $383 million.

Citing relocation and new stadiums as major factors, team values across the league were up 19 percent from last year, with the average organization being worth $2.34 billion.

The Rams, who moved from St. Louis back to Los Angeles this year, saw their value double to $2.9 billion, and Forbes estimated that the team, which is playing at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for three years while it waits for a new stadium to be constructed, could soon be worth $4 billion.

In calculating the figures, the magazine took into account enterprise values (equity plus net debt) based on past transactions as well as known offers to buy and invest in some teams.
