Woman Steals 2 Vehicles, Leads Police On 2 Chases, Escapes Once, N.Y. State Police Say

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was arrested on Long Island Monday after a high-speed chase, only to escape and lead police on a second pursuit.

Ultimately, the woman was taken into custody again.

Police said Rasheeda Brown sped off after she was pulled over while allegedly driving a stolen Toyota sport-utility vehicle on Saturday just before noon.

Police were chasing Brown from Southampton to Riverhead along State Route 27, police told CBS2.

In Riverhead, New York State Police joined the pursuit while Brown's drove into a Home Depot parking lot and toward a pedestrian crosswalk, state police said.

The trooper positioned a cruiser to protect the pedestrians, and Brown struck the trooper's vehicle, state police said. The trooper inside was not injured.

Brown was arrested again and was turned over to Southampton police, and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, state police said.

But it wasn't over. Brown escaped from custody at the hospital and stole another vehicle – this time a Toyota Camry – from the parking lot of the TJ Maxx on County Route 58, state police said.

Brown was later spotted by a trooper on Mill Road in Riverhead, and another chase began, state police said.

Brown struck a jet ski trailer being towed by a Jeep Wrangler on the road, and she tried to steal the Jeep Wrangler too, state police said.

But this time, Brown was arrested and was taken to state police Riverside Barracks, state police said. She was facing multiple felony charges.
