De Blasio Slams New York Post Reporter Who Brings Up His Gym Habits

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio is involved in a new battle – this time against the New York Post over his exercise habits.

As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, a question about the mayor's exercise habits by a Post reporter produced a rare case of ruffled feathers.

The Post reported Wednesday that de Blasio came late to a meeting with the residents of a home for the blind that was damaged in the Chelsea bombing this past weekend, and went to work out first.

"In a city famous for its work ethic, how do you justify spending an hour-and-a-half at the gym and then coming into work?" a Post reporter asked de Blasio.

De Blasio fired back.

"I'm quite aware of what you guys are up to," he said. "And again, you are a paper with a clear right-wing agenda. Let's be real about it, you're a propaganda rag."

De Blasio defended himself, saying he works seven days a week and adding that "if someone is not taking care of themselves so they can be at maximum energy, you're not doing the right thing by your obligations to the people."

When the reporter tried to follow up, the mayor declared, "Stop wasting my time."
