LISTEN: Francesa Says Giants Need To Keep Their Cool, Calls Penalty On Blocked Punt 'As Bad A Play As Humanly Possible'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants have a composure problem, and fixing it starts with their coach, WFAN's Mike Francesa said Monday.

"I was a little surprised ... really confounded with him not thinking his team lost their cool," Francesa said a day after the Giants lost to the Redskins 29-27. "Because, if anything, was completely obvious, it was how badly the Giants lost their cool in this game, how many bad penalties -- 11 penalties, 128 yards -- the center getting thrown out of the game, (tackle Ereck) Flowers with a bad penalty, big mistakes, big mistakes in the special teams."

On a bad day, the worst moment, in Francesa's opinion, came early in the fourth quarter when a personal foul by rookie Andrew Adams nullified a blocked punt that would have set up the Giants, trailing 26-24 at the time, in Washington's red zone.

Francesa said such a play "cannot stand" and "shows you what happens when you play undisciplined, emotional, dumb football."

"As bad a play as humanly possible, the kind of play that cost you games -- and it did cost them a game," Francesa added.

Francesa also said it's time for Odell Beckham Jr. to grow up.

"He has got to mature," he said. "You cannot have him out of control as much as he is. ... Part of being a great player is keeping your wits, leading your team, not sending your team down a road they don't want to go."
