Derrick Rose: Phil Jackson Got 'Grumpy' About 'Complicated' Triangle

WEST POINT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Derrick Rose admits he and some of his Knicks teammates are facing a learning curve with the triangle offense.

After an in-depth session on Knicks president Phil Jackson's signature system Thursday, Rose called the triangle "complicated" and "foreign."

"It's like 40 to 50 options on one side of the floor," the newly acquired point guard told reporters. "It's like giving you your space for creativity. It's like if you're doing it the right way, you could do everything you want, you could freelance, but you just got to know where you're going."

Rose added that, "I think the more we work on it and the way the coaches are putting it into the offense, it's a little bit easier."

While coach Jeff Honacek says Jackson is giving him the freedom to run the triangle the way he wants to, a perturbed Jackson interjected himself into Thursday's session, Rose said.

"He got mad at us one time because we was running the offense and we didn't throw the ball into the post," Rose said. "He came over, kind of grumpy a little bit. That was my first time ever seeing him like that."

Rose said he expects that when the game is on the line, the Knicks will abandon the triangle and run pick-and-rolls with him and Carmelo Anthony.

The 2011 NBA MVP said he has not yet spoken one-on-one with Jackson about the triangle but that it will happen in time. Rose, a Chicago native, said he looks up to the former coach who led the Bulls to six world titles, calling him a "legend."

"He's someone that his resume speaks for itself, all the accolades he achieved and everything," Rose said. "For me to even be in his presence and be a part of what he's building, I feel like something good is coming my way just by attaching my name with him or being associated with him."
