LISTEN: Yankees' Girardi Discusses Growth Of His Young Players, More

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- While the Yankees were long shots to reach the playoffs, they were still alive with four days left in the season.

Prior to his team being eliminated from postseason contention Thursday night, manager Joe Girardi told WFAN's Mike Francesa that playing meaningful baseball in September and playing in front of hostile crowds, such as in Boston and Toronto, proved to be valuable lessons for his young players.

Girardi also talked about the Yankees' ability to come from behind -- like they did when Mark Teixeira hit a walk-off grand slam to beat the Red Sox on Wednesday -- and rookie Tyler Austin's knack for coming through with clutch hits.
