Kim Kardashian West Back In NYC After Gunpoint Jewel Robbery In Paris

Masked Men Tie Up Reality Star, Escape With $10 Million In Jewelry

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Kim Kardashian West was back in New York City Monday, hours after being robbed at gunpoint of more than $10 million worth of jewelry Sunday night in Paris.

As CBS2’s Jessica Layton reported, Kardashian West returned to her TriBeCa apartment building Monday with a motorcade and heavy security, and with her husband, Kanye West, right behind her.

Friends stopped by all afternoon to check on Kardashian West. Late Monday afternoon, CBS2 spotted La La Anthony, the wife of the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, walking out of the building.

On Monday night, the lights were on in the penthouse that overlooks much of Manhattan. But there was no sign of Kardashian West, who never came back outside after arriving at her heavily guarded building.

“I thought it was really shocking actually and I think it’s an incident that would traumatize you for a long time,” said fan Lee Holmes.

“Just crazy,” said fan Laurent Moeller. “Never thought something like that would happen.”

Earlier, Kardashian West flew into Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, New Jersey, in a private jet, hours after the robbery.

The reality TV star and entrepreneur was in France for Fashion Week, and was staying in a boutique hotel when police said was robbed by five armed and masked men posing as police officers.

The Paris prosecutors’ office said that only two of the five suspects forced their way into the apartment, located in the chic eighth district of the French capital. They tied her up in the flat’s bathroom tub before fleeing the scene with the jewelry that was worth at least $10 million.

Among the items that was stolen was a ring that was reportedly worth $4 million, police said.

French authorities swarmed the swanky boutique hotel and swept it for clues.

Ina Treciokas, a spokeswoman for Kardashian West, said she was “badly shaken but physically unharmed.”

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, condemned the attack and expressed her support to the reality TV star, saying she will “always be welcome in Paris.”

Hidalgo added in a statement that she is fully confident that police forces will quickly identify and arrest the suspects and insisted in her statement that the robbery “in no way calls into question police work or security of public space” in Paris.

The incident rattled Kanye West. He was performing at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival in Queens at the time of the robbery, and he abruptly ended his set Sunday night after telling his fans had a family emergency.

But backlash that started at the concert after it was cut short quickly spread to social media.

One Twitter user joked that Kardashian West’s famed celebrity enemies, Paris Hilton and Taylor Swift, were behind the robbery.

But stars like James Corden came to Kardashian West’s defense, tweeting a reminder that said in part: “She’s a mother, a daughter, a wife, a friend. Be nice or shut up.”

Asked how Kardashian West was doing Monday afternoon, mother Kris Jenner gave a thumbs up.

Stunned fans have rushed to send well wishes on social media. But many wondered whether her recent posts to the world showing pictures of extravagant jewels made her an easier target for thieves.

Fans also wanted to know where Kardashian West’s bodyguard was when the robbery happened.

Kardashian West had attended the Givenchy show in France Sunday evening.

She was also ambushed last week by a serial celebrity accoster who attempted to assault her as she was entering a restaurant. She wasn’t hurt.

The couple’s two children, 3-year-old daughter North and 10-month-old son Saint, were not with Kardashian West when the robbery happened.

Police said the thieves got away on bicycles. Early Tuesday Paris time, there had been no arrests in the robbery, CBS2’s Layton reported.

  2. Kate says:

Come on CBS, you should be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than reporting this as legitimate news. Who cares really that she is back in NY. Leave this and similar stories to the tabloid, entertainment tonight and other media. Cronkite & Murrow are laughing mightily. And please get out the flag options for some of the overzealous posters here and on other stories.
