As Comic Con Returns To The Javits Center, So Do The Elaborate Costumes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Pull on your spandex and don your masks, Comic Con is back at the Javits Center.

CBS2's Alice Gainer ran into Captain America, Harley Quinn, and the Ghostbusters on the red carpet on Thursday.

A lot of work goes into the elaborate costumes that many fans wear to the convention.

"Super compressed poster board, and then I heat formed it. I heated it up and formed its shape," Christopher Pagliuca said.

Some of the outfits take over a month to put together, and participants get creative using everything from Swiffer handles and foam, to 'for sale' signs to put them together.

This year, Game of Thrones seems to be a popular choice.

"They (the dragons) stayed home today. They didn't want to tear up the place! My cousin had to work. He has a really great dragon costume, but he had to work," one convention goer dressed as Daenerys from Game of Thrones, explained.

The thick smell of popcorn wafted through the venue as crowds bought figurines and trading card games, and attended celebrity panels including one that featured the original Batman Adam West.
