Son Prime Suspect In Queens Woman's Disappearance

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A son is the suspect in his mother's disappearance as authorities fear the Queens woman is dead.

CBS2's Ali Bauman reports investigators scoured Flushing Meadows Park Thursday afternoon for Lyubov Gorbunova. The 58-year-old mother was last seen on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. at her home on 62nd Drive.

"She is an active woman and I don't know what happened," said Surinder Sharma. "Sad story."

New clues have police looking for Gorbunova's son – 21-year-old Roman Gorbunova. Police are calling him a prime suspect.

Authorities said an Uber driver reported dropping him off at Flushing Meadows Park on Sept. 29 with suspicious smelling trash bags. The driver called police, but Roman Gorbunova was gone by the time they arrived.

Police sources told CBS2 they have obtained surveillance video from that day of the woman's son carrying large trash bags and a trash can from the lobby. He was arrested the next day for stealing a computer monitor from security and given a desk appearance ticket.

However, Roman Gorbunova is nowhere to be found, and his mother's neighbors are growing concerned.

"The time now is really hard for everybody but we have to keep going, to pay attention to everything around us," said Nina Argioe.

Lyubov Gorbunova is described as 5-foot-5, around 160 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.
