Man Picked Up Boy, Shook Him Between Cars On No. 6 Train, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect who picked up an 11-year-old boy between cars on a subway train and made it look like he was going to throw the boy off.

Around 3:20 p.m. this past Wednesday, the man picked up the boy on a moving southbound No. 4 Train in Midtown East and took him into the area between the train cars, police said.

The man picked him up and shook him as if he were about to throw him off the train, police said.

The boy bumped his head on the side of the train during the attack, police said.

A 26-year-old woman stepped in and pulled the boy back onto the train car, police said. The boy and the woman got off the train at the 14th Street-Union Square stop, while the suspect stayed on the train, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s standing 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a black sweater and a multi-colored baseball cap.

Police have released a sketch.
