LI Mom Takes Drugs In Parking Lot With 5-Year-Old Daughter In Car, Police Say

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman has been arrested after using a hypodermic needle to take drugs in a car while her 5-year-old daughter was in the backseat of the vehicle, police said.

According to police, a witness called 9-1-1 after spotting Heather Dajani, 25, of Valley Stream, apparently taking drugs while parked in a Walgreens parking lot on Franklin Avenue at around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Plain-clothes police officers responding to the scene also saw Dajani using a needle to take drugs, authorities said. She was arrested on the scene.

Dajani's 5-year-old daughter was in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said. The child was released in custody to her grandmother.

Upon further investigation, police found a straw with heroin in the vehicle, a glass pipe with crack cocaine and a pipe with marijuana in it, police said.

Dajani was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. She is charged with endangering the welfare of a child along with several drugs charges.

Dajani is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
