The crash took place at around 2:30 p.m. on the southbound Palisades Parkway near Exit 11 in New City.

One of the buses rear-ended the other. For some reason the lead bus slowed or stopped and the second bus kept going.

The New York State police said the buses were from Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, New Jersey and they were returning from Woodmont Day Camp in New City.

CBS2's Lou Young reports 75 students in all were on the buses.

Sixty students were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, according the to New York State Police.

"I'm a little unnerved right now," said parent James Goudie. "She sounds OK, but with neck injuries, you don't know what happens."

Joanne Germinario said she received a text message from her 15-year-old daughter following the accident.

"I got a text message from my daughter telling me she was in a bus accident and that she hit her face very abruptly in the seat in front of her," said Germinario. "She said she was in a lot of pain, but she wasn't terribly injured and that she was going to be taken here at Nyack Hospital to be examined.

Students said it was a team-building field trip.

A police source said this was essentially a highway fender-bender.
