A Look At The Fashion Trends For This Fall

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The fall weather has arrived, but do you have the fashion to go with it?

CBS2's Cindy Hsu had a look Monday at the must-haves this fall season.

Fashion expert Colleen Fitzpatrick said anything velvet is in – even velvet boots. Another fall trend this year is animal prints.

Fitzpatrick showed off one imitation animal skin from the 1950s that she bought at a thrift store for $25.

The menswear style for women is also hot. Fitzpatrick showed off some black pants with a pinstripe.

"It looks so current because it's a short ankle pant and you can see the dropped back," she said. "You can wear flats with this, ankle boots or a nice pump."

Another trend making a comeback is the tie-neck top -- remember "Charlie's Angels?"

Daniella Berkson is the chief executive officer of HumbleChic.com, and said the key is to make sure the style doesn't come off matronly.

"Make sure that you pair it with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt or some more current jewelry," she said.

When it comes to jewelry, Berkson said less is more this fall. Think small and delicate.

For earrings, there is the ear threader -- and ear crawlers are also big.

The experts said the smaller the pieces, the more real they look. Chokers are also hot, and if you go for a lariat, there are lots of ways to wear it.

To stay warm, try the chunky knit infinity scarf, or go even bigger with the blanket scarf -- which comes in all sorts of sizes and which you can wear in all sorts of ways.

And if you're looking for no hassle, how about a poncho?

"What's nice about ponchos is that they're just really easy and in the winter," Berkson said. "On a super cold day the last thing you want to do is worry about fussing and layering."

Another trend is the power suit, which people like Beyonce have been sporting lately.
