CBS2 Exclusive: 'Kevin Can Wait' Brings Long Island Authenticity To Primetime

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The King of Queens is back with a new show filmed right here in New York.

CBS2's Jessica Moore was on the set of Kevin Can Wait, and spoke exclusively with Long Island native Kevin James and a special guest from the New York Mets.

In leafy Bethpage, the scene was set for one of its own.

At the center of it all is CBS' own king of comedy -- Kevin James, oversees every aspect of production on his new show Kevin Can Wait.

James told Moore he fought for the Long Island location because of how much it would mean for the show's authenticity.

"I did. That was one of the most important to me that we were able to shoot here on Long Island and bring that authenticity to the show," he said.

It's that New York authenticity that James said he craves.

"I mean it sounds cliche, but it's the pizza, the burgers, the delis, the egg sandwiches, the food is forever," he said. "I got my own sports teams here too -- the Mets, the Jets."

Speaking of the Mets, last month James hit a homerun during batting practice with the team. It was a moved that earned him street cred with superstar pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

The 6'6" pitching phenom guest stars in next week's episode as a music blaring viking who disrupts a romantic Halloween scene.

So what's easier -- baseball or acting?

"Definitely baseball. I'm getting more comfortable with it, so who knows what could happen?" he said. "I'm having a lot of fun and I really appreciate Kevin having me on, so I look forward to seeing how the show turns out."

Can Thor live up to his name off of the baseball field? See for yourself when the Halloween episode of Kevin Can Wait airs next Monday on CBS2 at 8 p.m.
