Video Captures Bronx Woman Attacked In Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A good Samaritan comes to the aid of Bronx woman who was attacked in her building.

CBS2's Valerie Castro reports surveillance video captured the unsuspecting victim as she entered her apartment building on Fulton Avenue near Crotona Street in the Claremont Village section of the Bronx.

She turned to look at the person running up behind her, but in a matter of seconds, he grabs her, throws her to the floor, stomps on her stomach and runs away with her purse.

An exterior camera showed the man running into the building from the dark street to take down his victim.

"Yeah, my back hurts a lot, it still hurts," said the victim Carolina.

She said the incident has left her shaken.

"I feel nervous," said Carolina. "Now I can't walk, nobody can stay behind me because I feel so nervous, it's really, really bad."

She said the ordeal happened in an instant.

"He only said, 'Let it go,' the bag," said Carolina.

After he took the bag, the man can be seen running down the street as Carolina followed him outside.

She told a person riding by on a bicycle what just happened to her. She said the person chased the man down and was able to get back her purse.

It's an act that Carolina is grateful for, though she doesn't know who that person is.

"I want to appreciate what he did for me," she said. "He put his life in danger for me and I appreciate that."

The mother of three is scared that the suspect hasn't been caught, not only for herself, but her family as well.

"My daughter, she's 15 years old, now she has to come home from school and you never know," said Carolina.

The daughter said she tries to "be extra careful" now.
