Suspect Who Allegedly Stole Police Car In The Bronx In Custody
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The search is over for a suspect that police say jumped into a police car and drove off, smashing into several vehicles in the Bronx early Sunday morning.
Police say Rubin Fernandez stole a marked squad car that had the keys left inside it from the parking lot of the 50th precinct of Kingsbridge Avenue shortly before 6:30 a.m.
Fernandez, 31, drove the car down Sedgwick Avenue and crashed into four parked cars near Fordham Road, according to police.
"He hopped out of the car, walked down the block like nothing happened and caught a taxi," one witness told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Police said the suspect was arrested following a tip.
Fernandez face charges of grand larceny, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
