Swastika Spray Painted In Front Of Nassau County Home, Police Say

STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County police  are investigating a series of swastikas and other graffiti spray painted on sidewalks,  trees and utility poles in one Long Island neighborhood.

An image of a swastika was spray painted in front of a home on Stewart Avenue in Stewart Manor, authorities say. Other images were painted on trees and utility poles along the street.

The images were discovered at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The woman who found the bright green images and notified police called it "very disturbing," WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

She said she worries for her Jewish child and wants to see more police patrolling the neighborhood.

"I'm frightened for him," she said.

Nassau County police are investigating the act as a criminal mischief incident, and also a possible hate crime.

Police are asking anyone with information to call (800) 244-TIPS. Tips can remain anonymous.
