Chappaqua School Supt. Resigns Before Furious Parents Over Handling Of Teacher Sex Abuse Allegations

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Angry parents clashed with school board members in Chappaqua Tuesday night.

It was standing room only at a Tuesday evening meeting, where the school board accepted the resignation of Supt, Marilyn McKay.

McKay came under fire for her handling of a teacher accused of sexual abuse. Christopher Schraufnagel taught drama at Horace Greeley High School.

Parents demanded answers on who knew what and when about the allegations.

"In my opinion, to delay doing this kind of investigation is to delay healing the district and the community," one parent said at the meeting.

Another parent said the district needs to ensure "that the children are safe and never at risk for sexual abuse."

Schraufnagel was arrested in October 2015 and will be sentenced later this month after accepting a plea deal.

Under the terms of the proposed plea agreement, McCarty said Schraufnagel will face three years of probation as a sex offender and will also be required to surrender his New York State Teaching Certificate.

From May 2011 until June 2015, prosecutors said he "engaged in numerous instances of sexual assault, inappropriate sexual conduct and contact with a total of three underage students of the school."

All three of the alleged victims were 15 at the time of the incidents, prosecutors said.
