'It Was Vomit All Over The Floor,' Dozens Of Sick Kids Sent Home From Brooklyn School
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One by one, students have been getting sick at a Brooklyn school.
The unusual rash of illness sent nearly 20 students home over the last two days, and teachers have been covering their faces with masks.
As CBS2's Jessica Moore went to find out what was going on, police tape blocked anyone but parents coming in to pick up their kids, from getting close to PS-160 in Borough Park, Brooklyn.
"It was vomit all over the floor and people wearing masks," Kelly said, "When I smelled it, it made me dizzy."
"They were telling us if we want to vomit we have to go outside," David Sorano said.
Around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, the school called 911 about 16 kids who were sick.
"They're all gastrointestinal symptoms - nausea, vomiting," EMS Deputy Chief, John Nevins said.
The FDNY hazmat team did a thorough sweep of the entire building for environmental hazards and carbon monoxide, and determined neither were threats.
While the FDNY isn't ready to name the culprit, students said the scene inside the school wasn't pretty.
"Every teacher is putting on masks," Anthony Esparza said.
The department of education said health is its number one priority and -- out of an abundance of caution -- the school will be disinfected overnight.
"Stay home if you're sick and if you don't feel well stay home instead. That's what the principal said," Anthony Esparza explained.
"The school is very good. They always tell us about viruses and stuff like that. That's why I trust this school," parent Kazima Raja said.
It's that trust that has many parents saying their kids will be back in school on Thursday as long as they're feeling better.
