Third Person Arrested In Connection With Deadly Newburgh Halloween Party Shooting

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A third arrest has been made in connection with a Halloween party shooting that left two young women dead in Newburgh, according to authorities.

Police said 17-year-old Nija Johnson was arrested Friday afternoon somewhere outside of New York.

Earlier this week, Rainier Hamilton, 21, was arrested on criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence charges, police said. Tyson Oliveria, 20, was also arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence, police said.

Police did not announce what charges Johnson faces or whether he was the shooter. They said it should take several days for him to return to the state.

The Sunday morning shooting killed 18-year-old Omani Free and 20-year-old Tabitha Cruz, both of Newburgh.

Five other people were hurt.
