De Blasio Heads To Brooklyn Churches, Urges Everyone To Vote

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump trekked to the battleground states Sunday, Mayor Bill de Blasio made his rounds.

"If someone says it does not matter, tell them it matters to you," de Blasio said. "Make it personal. Tell them it matters to your family. It matters to your neighborhood."

As 1010 WINS' Darius Radzius reported, de Blasio made his rounds to five Brooklyn churches. He urged everyone inside the Christian Cultural Center, 12020 Flatlands Ave., to vote on Tuesday. He also told them it is their duty to get others to get to the polls.

One voter told Radzius she is discouraged by the current presidential election. But she will still go to the polls despite not having made up her mind.

She said the reason she was voting was "because I have the opportunity to use a vote that my parents didn't have an opportunity to use, and then hopefully my grandchildren will benefit from the fact that I made the decision to have a vote."

Another woman, Mavis, said she can't wait for election season to be over.

"I don't know – it's almost like high school when you're trying to – you know, everything just feels – ultimately, you're thinking the lesser of two evils," she said.

A man named Ronald said not voting would be a mistake.

"If you don't vote, than somebody else is going to get the gain from that not voting," he said.

Election Day is coming up on Tuesday.
