Heavy Security In Place At Trump Tower As Protests Continue Around The Country

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The skies above Trump Tower have been declared national air space and the FAA has warned pilots it can be defended with deadly force.

On the ground, concrete barriers, portable roadblocks, and metal barricades restrict the space.

As WCBS-880's Rich Lamb reported, Police Commissioner O'Neill said there will be enhanced security for a couple of months.

"It's a busy spot, 56th and 6th. We just have to make sure that we have security, but we also have the ability for New Yorkers to go about their business," he said.

For the third straight night, groups of anti-Trump protestors marched across the city with police stopping them short of Trump Tower on 5th Ave, but is the commissioner concerned about the possibility for a New York duplicate of the Portland riot?

"The NYPD has a broad range of experience with protests, as we've seen over the last couple of years and people have the right to demonstrate the protest," he said.

Just how much time the President-elect will spend at Trump Tower once inaugurated is unknown, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported. He lives with his family in the penthouse, and his company is headquartered there.
