Giving Back: Best Ways To Volunteer In NYC This Holiday Season

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you're thinking about giving back this holiday season, now is the time.

Most area soup kitchens have closed their volunteer lists due to the overwhelming number of people wanting to work. But there are opportunities that you can still get involved in if you want to give back.

More: Best Ways To Volunteer In NYC

Wes Moe, Senior Director of NY Cares, stopped by CBS2 on Sunday to discuss some of the volunteer opportunities in New York City this holiday season.

HSU: What are some things now that you're in need of volunteers?

MOE: Hunger programs are the most popular, especially around the Thanksgiving holiday. But those same pantries need volunteers throughout the month. The same people there on Thanksgivnig, unfortunately, are going to be there this week and the week after too.

...Because we work with all populations and missions, there can be unique ways. One of my favorites right now is instead of doing Zumba classes at your gym, you can volunteer and do them at a senior center uptown.
