US Servicewomen Receive Free Makeovers Thursday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)- A cosmetic giant supplied makeovers Thursday for a group of U.S. servicewomen and their families, a small token of appreciation for all they've sacrificed.

Jenny Pacanowski served as a combat medic for the Army. When she deployed in Iraq, she often wondered if she'd make it home alive.

"In my transition coming home, I had to learn how to live in stead of learning how to survive," she added.

Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Hinskton, approaching her twenty-first year of service with the Air Force, has been deployed four times. The hardest part, says Hinskton, is being away.

L'Oréal USA invited the women to the Upper West Side Thursday, where they received top to bottom makeovers.

"We think it's so important that we make them feel valued and acknowledge the work they've done to protect us and the freedoms we have," said Cecilia Nelson, Assistant Vice President with L'Oréal USA.

"It was so exciting," said Pacanowski. "We look like men in uniforms, units. Now we get to be individuals," she added.

As CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported, more than forty stylists and make-up artists volunteered their time to salute their heroes.
