NYPD Deputy Inspector Keith Walton Charged With Sex Abuse

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD Deputy Inspector has been arrested and charged with sex abuse.

Deputy Inspector Keith Walton, commander of the 49th precinct in the Bronx was just recently promoted from captain. He faces charges of sex abuse, forcible touching, official misconduct, and harassment.

As CBS2's Brian Conybeare reported, there was not a word from Walton as he walked out of Bronx Criminal Court following his arrest.

Walton has been stripped of his gun and badge and is facing sex abuse charges.

The 20 year NYPD veteran has been accused of ordering a female subordinate into his office on November 6, grabbing her, pulling her hair, and trying to forcibly kiss her.

Prosecutors said the woman fought back shouting, "stop, what the (expletive) are you doing, you need to stop."

When she tried to leave, Walton allegedly grabbed her again putting his hands on her genitals saying, "where the (expletive) are you going?"

Sources told CBS2 a supervisor saw it happening, and called internal affairs.

Walton was removed from his post on Wednesday.

Police Commissioner James O'Neill had little to say when asked about the case on Friday.

"We're working with the Bronx DA's office on that. I don't want to go into the investigation. As it unfolds we'll make sure everybody knows about it," he said.

A statement from the cop's attorney read, "Deputy Inspector Walton vehemently denies these allegations and is looking forward to his day in court."

Walton's attorney said his client is living a nightmare.

"His history is nothing but stellar. He's got an exceptional record. This man is respected by the community, and this is completely outside the realm of anything that he's ever been accused of or will ever be accused of," Louis LaPietra said.

Walton was in the news last August for his big-hearted help of a 7-year-old boy who lost his parents in a murder suicide.

He arranged a surprise trip for the lad to Disney World.
