NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A holiday TV favorite is making its way to the stage.

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is now a live show, and CBS2's Alex Denis got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to turn a beloved holiday staple into a full-on musical.

Eight hours a day, seven days a week, the cast is busy perfecting the show before the big premier.

"Every single one of us, even everyone in the ensemble, have gone through dialect coaching to make sure we sound exactly like the characters in the movie," one of the actors said.

For the first time in New York City, fans can see the the iconic characters from the TV special come to life at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

"It's everything that you would see in the TV special and thensome. There's choreography and musical numbers," director and choreographer Dana Solimando.

The musical runs Dec. 1st - 18th.

Tickets start at $39.

The original TV special airs Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. on CBS2.
