Police Searching For Armored Truck Burglary Suspect

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York City Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying an individual depicted on surveillance footage regarding an armored truck burglary that occurred in Midtown.

The NYPD's Major Case Squad received a report that on Thursday, September 29th, 2016, at around 430 p.m., an armored truck company making a pick up discovered that a five gallon aluminum pail containing $1.6 million worth of gold flakes was stolen from the rear of their armored truck.

The truck was parked in front of 48 West 48th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, according to police.

The individual depicted on the surveillance footage is seen lifting the five gallon pail from the truck before fleeing eastbound on West 48th Street towards 3rd Avenue.

According to police, the individual is described as a Hispanic male approximately 5'6", roughly 150 pounds, between the ages of 50 and 60 years old. He can be seen wearing a black vest, a green shirt, and blue jeans carrying a black messenger bag.
